Custom Window Bracket for the DeLonghi PInguino AC

Hello everyone, this is a quick DIY post on how I completed a window installation for my DeLonghi Pinguino portable air conditioner. The AC unit came with a window bracket that was, unfortunately, not compatible with the windows in my home.

Fortunately, I had the tools and supplies to whip up a DIY alternative.

Tools and Supplies

Here’s what I needed for the project:

Jigsaw
Miter saw (or circular saw)
Drill with a drill bit a smidgen large than your jigsaw blade
1×12 board (cut to the width of my window)
Insulation foam

Optional supplies could include paints and finishes. (I skipped this step. Because 1. Lazy and 2. This is a temporary setup.)

How to Install

First thing you’ll need to do is measure the width of where you want to install the window bracket.

I made a cut at the exact dimensions but struggled inserting into the frame of the window. I had to improvise a little but going back to the miter saw and cutting one edge with a 15 degree bevel.

Next trace the outline of the wall flange with cap onto the 1×12 board. Be mindful of where it will be positioned once you install the board in the window.

Drill pilot holes for the jigsaw and cut out the shape of the hole.

(As far as jigsaw blades go, I highly recommend the Bosch T101AO3 blades. I started off with a blade that was too thick for the curves and swapped out to the T101AO3 blade. You can see the difference in my control in the photo below.)

Insert the flange into the hole. It should be a nice snug fit.

My AC unit came with some insulation foam. I applied that to the sides of my 1×12 board and inserted it into the window.

All that’s left is to close the window and install the exhaust hose.

This was a quick easy solution to my incompatible window bracket.

Initial impressions of the DeLonghi Pinguino: two thumbs up! My HVAC finally bit the bullet and died the first week of the year to hit 90+ degrees. This unit has done well cooling down my downstairs area (large open floor plan) and should hopefully hold us over until we replace our HVAC unit.
